1. What made you start CrossFit?
Marie – My back hurt all the time. When I went to bed, all day and even when I woke up in the
morning. I knew it was from a lack of core muscles. I saw Natasha’s post on FB and messaged
her before I had the chance to chicken out!
Tim – I needed to work out again. I liked the idea of having a trainer/coach and someone who
creates the workout plans for you.
2. How has CrossFit changed your life as an individual and as a couple?
Marie – I can sleep at night again and my back doesn’t hurt! As a couple, I get to see my
husband lift. I mean, hello!
Tim – I am in better shape now, I don’t get tired or winded as easily. As a couple, we are able to
work out together.
3. What are some of the goals you have?
Marie – My short term or on-going goal is to make it to the gym three times a week. My
longer-term goal is to be able to do a handstand and get better at the rope climb.
Tim – My personal goal is to be able to do an unassisted chin-up.
4. What would be a perfect workout for your spouse?
Marie – Snatches.
Tim – Thrusters.
5. What would you tell somebody just starting out or thinking about starting out?
Marie – Just start. Don’t overthink it. Don’t think you can’t do it. Just start.
Tim – Don’t look at the WODs or be intimidated by them. Everything can be scaled and
everybody can participate.
6. What is your previous fitness background?
Marie – I swam through high school and did Masters on and off over the years since then. I am
also a “fancy-gym” drop out after talking myself out of any sort of strenuous workouts again and
again over the years.
Tim – I rode horses when I was younger, lifted in high school and enlisted in the Army after HS.
More recently, I worked out at Snap Fitness in Cameron Park before joining Bios.
7. What do you like most about CrossFit and what do you like about Bios?
Marie & Tim – We both like that CrossFit is a full body workout. We work out muscles we didn’t
even know we had! As for Bios, it is a family. The coaches and members are supportive,
accepting and incredible individuals. We are extremely thankful to be a part of it.
8. What is something that is interesting about your spouse that people don’t know?
Marie – Some interesting things about Tim are that he can learn and do just about anything. He’s
especially talented at learning languages – coding languages and regular but in the past he has also rode and competed English horseback, built houses, played various instruments,
hardscaped our backyard, and he manages the server infrastructure at EDC. He’s sort of your
jack of all trades.
Tim – Marie is a science nerd. She finds anything about the brain rather
enthralling. She likes to bake, especially stress-bake, and she likes to eat cookies. She likes to
be alone at the pool swimming laps.
9. What motivates and/or inspires you?
Marie – Not being a bitch motivates me to get to the gym. Seriously. I am not a nice person to
be around when I haven’t made it to the gym. The PG feel good version: The Bios CrossFitters
inspire me. We are from all different walks of life and ability levels and yet they’re all in the box
hitting it hard and encouraging one another.
Tim – Learning new things and finding ways to solve problems. (Yes, he got this straight off of
