How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience/WOD?
I was looking for an alternative gym membership as a present for my wives birthday and was referred to CrossFit Bios by Barber Mike. I showed up for a Saturday workout for my first WOD – Deck of Doom. It was a great partner workout, except that I drew every single burpee card in the deck…there’s a reason why no one likes burpees!
What motivates you/keeps you coming back to CrossFit Bios?
Being part of a team that motivates and encourages staying healthy and getting stronger. I’ve lost 25 lbs and feel stronger than ever. Its not just the weight and getting stronger. It’s the desire to figure out how to complete more that one double under or pull-up, how to finish a scaled and then a RX WOD, how to effectively and efficiently pull off a snatch, how to know when too much weight is just too much, how to take care of your body when you are injured and how to ask for help from your coaches and teammates.
What accomplishment are you most proud of (inside and outside the gym)?
Staying with a workout program for over 9 months (inside) and outside would be my family.
After a hard workout what is your favorite meal or way to recharge?
I like so many different types of food, but nothing is better than fresh pasta with my homemade bolognese sauce.
What is one goal you’re currently working on?
HSPU and #315 squat
Most embarrassing/funniest gym moment?
I was halfway through a WOD and killing it, thinking “wow….I’m really starting to get this” only to have my spirits crushed when Peter kindly reminded me that I forgot an entire exercise during the workout.
Any tips for someone just starting out?
#1 – Don’t be afraid to scale when you’re not comfortable with the weights or the movements. #2 – Challenge yourself
