1. How long have you been with us at CF Bios? Do you remember your first workout? How did you feel?
I’ve been at CF Bios since 3/14/16 when the first “New You” class began. The only thing I really remember about that first workout is how scared I was (of the impending pain) and burpees. I remember feeling like, “there is no way in hell that I’ll ever be able to do more than 5 burpees at a time.” But I also felt a sense of pride for committing myself to health and fitness, irregardless of the certain pain coming my way.

2. Tell us about your fitness background.
In my early twenties, I stumbled across a boxing/kickboxing gym and found myself passionate about a sport and fitness for the first time in my life. For a few years, I committed myself to my gym 5-6 days a week and participated in local sparring competitions…until I suffered knee injuries that put me down for weeks. Feeling defeated from my injuries, I succumbed to the all-too familiar spiral down effect. Before I knew it, years had come and gone and I had just let my body go. Aside from the occasional, yearly burst of commitment to health that many people feel, I didn’t do much.

3. If you could create any WOD what would it be? (Favorite movements?)
Tough question… I really like anything that I’m not good at… Double unders, ab exercises, running. I want to get better at the tough stuff, not revel in the easy stuff.

4. What is your favorite healthy food and cheat food?
My favorite healthy food would have to be a taco salad with grilled chicken, sauted onions and peppers, avocado, tomatoes, onions, and smothered in no-sugar salsa. Yum.
My favorite cheat food is pizza or anything with dairy in it, really. Or ice cream (which, of course, is dairy)…

5. What is something we don’t know about you? (Interesting fact, accomplishment you are proud of, obscure/unique talent, funny story, etc.)
I’m a total foodie. I’ve given serious thought about auditioning for Masterchef or Hell’s Kitchen. Aside from that….My husband and I started a catering business which is exploding at the moment.

6. How has CF helped you outside of the gym?
Since I’ve been going to CF my self esteem has improved dramatically. I feel like I’m getting my “old self” back. This has helped with my personal relationships and my business relationships. It feels good to feel good!

7. Describe a current goal you are trying to reach
I really want to sign up for and complete an obstacle course race of some sort within the next 6 months

8. Recent adventure you are planning?
Nashville in January! Country music capitol and BBQ…what could be better?

9. What is your favorite workout song? Why?
“Lose Yourself” by Eminem. Don’t judge me. You can’t deny the beat and the ascension of the song. It just makes you want to work harder and harder throughout the song.

10. Any advice for newbies starting CrossFit?
Don’t quit! It might hurt, it might make you physically sick, but don’t quit. I saw something recently that really speaks to me… “One year from now you’ll wish you had started today.”
The sense of accomplishment and confidence you will feel outweighs any pain you might endure during your journey!

On a side note…I’d like to take a moment and thank Peter Santos and the trainers and “regulars” at the gym for, not only making me feel like family, but also being my cheerleading squad and pushing me to be my best. It’s really nice to be somewhere where you feel like you belong.
